The project is a partnership between IDIWA and PROWOCAVU. The project is being implemented in Iganga District in Six Sub Counties at six (6) target health centers of Iganga Hospital, Bulamagi H/C III, Lubira H/C III, Iganga Municipal H/C III, Islamic Medical Centre and Busembatia H/C III. The project aim is to contribute to a reduction in pediatric HIV infections and loss to follow up in the prevention of mother to child HIV transmissions. The core project activity is “Joint Active Client Follow-Up” of HIV-positive mothers regarded by the health facility to have missed appointments or lost-to-follow up so as to contribute to a reduction in pediatric HIV infections transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery and breast feeding. IDIWA has trained mentor mothers and VHTs in counseling and follow-up skills and thus working to ensure that mothers return to health facilities for care (follow ups) since it’s at such facilities that they receive the necessary medication (drugs / treatment) and support (such as counseling) to keep their babies safe or free from new HIV infections.
